Mouse stuttering

I've been having a problem recently with my mouse stuttering and it is very bad. It mostly happens in games (The Sims 3 & Fallout 3), but it happens while surfing a web page with intensive flash on it too. I've tried two different mice, uninstalling/reinstalling driver, and different usb port, but none of these worked. This problem is so frustrating I'd really like to fix it.

Here's my PC stats:

Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
Core2 Duo 2.20 GHz
2.0 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS

Thank you

Started up Fallout 3 and seems to be working nicely so far. Stuttered a couple of times, but it's much less worse now. Hopefully it stays this way.

Thanks for the suggestion! =)

The effect of the mouse stuttering is normally caused by the computer getting held up by something.

It may be an idea to update your sound drivers as well.

Do you get any problem with the sound stuttering or video playback being painfully slow.

I used to until recently I made a PC for living room and plugged it in there. Oh yeah, I'm also having this problem on that PC, but I haven't tried to fix it.

Ok... So the different mice I've tried are all wireless, so I brought a wired one home from work and it doesn't exhibit this problem. But I love my MX610 and do not want to use another mouse. So what could be causing the wireless one to lag? The receiver is like only a half a foot away so it isn't that... Oh yeah, the problem had diminished when I updated my video driver, but now it's gotten worse than before, it seems to be doing it all the time now.

are the specs for the other pc the same or are they different? are there any common components, your computer is probably under load, disable a few of your startup programs first, I wouldnt recommend MSCONFIG for you, perhaps download startup inspector Windows Startup Inspector Download
and disable a few of your non essential stuff in your system tray, msn or windows messenger, applets like that, printer software, dont disable Microsoft components.
Also try this, I've found this helps for games Game Booster | Faster Play, Free Download | Free Game Accelerator Download
It disables certain windows background processes while you play your games (frees up your ram and decreases CPU usage to increase game performance bottlenecks) might help you out mate, I've found things like this help, easy to configure and increases performance

sorry didnt see your post on the next page, you will have to get a new mouse mate if you dont want the lag. a corded one is the best, but if you really have to have a wireless one, the microsoft sidewinder is a good choice.
I have a G7 (they dont sell them in my country at retailers anymore) It is immaculate. no docking, just a really fast swap of the battery cartridges.
The older wireless mice do seem to lag alot that is why gamers often prefer the corded ones. It could also be the battery inside the mouse is running low (ionisation of the Lithium in the battery) and the mouse is trying to compensate by running on a 'power saver" mode and therefor performance declines.
But I dont think Logitech would put power saving mechanisms into mid range mice...
New mouse is the best option, high end cordless for no lag or any type of corded mouse for the same performance. Never cheap out on peripherals, you will use them for your next systems in the future

Thanks for all the tips Alex! No the other PC is running on XP x64 Pro and it's actually a Dell Workstation. Processor is the same as mine, but it has 4GB of ram.

I don't have any startup programs, I hate them, I only have my antivirus on and that's it. I don't understand what could have caused this, it was working fine a while ago, and I've never had this problem with my wireless mouse before.

how long have you had your wireless mouse for mate, as I was saying it could be because the battery is getting old. Update the software from logitech, that could help. But really if its stuttering there's not much you can do for it if its getting on in age, if you still have a warranty for it, return it to the store you purchased it with your receipt etc. and see if they can exchange it. There isnt too much you can do for a problem like this really apart from that, or you can go to logitech directly and pay for a new battery to see if that works, its really up to you try the software update first, if its happening on both coms, it is the mouse itself and I would say the battery is getting old (they do keep them on the shelves 2 years+ some places).
Ionisation of the battery means that every time you charge a battery with Lithium inside it the Ions change their molecular structure meaning that every time you recharge the battery your battery loses its maximum charge (your battery will eventually Ionise and die) so with every charge you shouldnt notice a 0.001% decrease in your battery life, but after a few months you might notice, until it eventually dies. Also leaving anything on the charger 24/7 will ionise a battery extremely fast. So with laptops people should charge their laptop to the brink and as soon as it hits 100% they should take out the power cord and let it run on battery. This causes less Ionisation, I suspect (like most people) that you leave your wireless mouse on the charger all night until you come back from it.
Do what you can mate, but in the end a corded mouse is the better bet, for any cordless device, try to make sure you can replace the batteries easy. (ie my G7)

I had wireless for my system for a while, you can try bluetooth and see if this fairs any better, I gave up and went for a corded mouse in the end and all the problems went away. I found the logitec had problems connecting to the reciever even with new batteries.

Well, I have two different wireless MX610's and both of them stuttter. But they take AA batteries so the replacements are just new batteries bought from Wal-Mart. And it does the same thing with any wireless mouse. I tried using my dad's small wireless logitech mouse to see if that one did the same thing and it also does it. The wired mouse I'm using ATM is starting to hurt my hand I want my ergonomic wireless one back! =( I already updated the logitech mouse driver software, and even tried uninstalling it, disabling the device, then re-enabling it and using the default Microsoft driver, but to no avail. My computer has been running sluggishly lately anyway, so I guess I'll have to end up reloading it, but I'd still like to find another way to fix this because I really do not want to have to resort to reloading my computer.

you should be able to plug it in to either one. try switching it. and make sure its not to far away from where you use the mouse. (really close is no good either)
