Recover Guest Profile

I have no idea how I got my system in this condition. I have been attempting to enable the Guest account on but when I do turn it on, I can't logon as Guest. I have looked at “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList” and I don't see the Guest account at all (SID missing). I don't know what the value should be nor how I can recover it. When I try to logon as Guest the system comes back with: Unable to Login due to "User Profile Service" failure. "The User Profile Service service failed the login. User Profile cannot be loaded." It seems that there should be a way to recover these predefined or standard logins. I don't want to do a system restoral as I have my system the way I want it (except for this problem with Guest) that I want to avoid any possibility of mistakes. Any idea how I can fix this situation with Guest?

Thank you,

In vista By default the guest account is not granted permission for login.

By the way, The sid will only be created after the guest account successfully logged in for the first time.

I belive you have to do something in your local security policy.

Type secpol.msc in search bar and hit enter. In the local security policy window expand local policies >user right assessment. In the right click paane find deny logon locally double click that and remove guest account from that policy.

Find allow login locally double click on that and add guest in that policy. Restart your computer and try to login :)

Thank you for your response. Both of these securities have been already set but I still have problems on Guest logon. Any more suggestions?

Sorry for the late reply, I was not well for those days. :(

If you are still having problem, Instead of digging hopeless we can create a new account and add it to Guests group.

Then the newly created user account will have the same privilege as the real guest account.

Hope this will help :)

Are you getting any error message while trying to create?

No errors when creating. Only when logging in. I've noticed 'strange' files in the 'C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile' directory. I'm not sure it means anything. It has 'ntuser.dat.LOG2', 'ntuser.dat{1e6cbac2-c7c1-11dc-8cfe-806e6f6e6963}.TMContainer00000000000000000002.regtrans-ms', 'ntuser.dat{1e6cbac2-c7c1-11dc-8cfe-806e6f6e6963}.TMContainer00000000000000000001.regtrans-ms', 'ntuser.dat{1e6cbac2-c7c1-11dc-8cfe-806e6f6e6963}.TM.blf', and 'ntuser.dat.LOG1'. Seems like the remnants of a bug which is the culprit of my errors. I'm not sure. What do you make of it?

Thanks,
