| Vista Home Edition 64 bit | Question on Memory Dump When doing an analysis using CCleaner the memory dump file is almost 600MB. CCleaner will clean out the Memory Dump, but my question is, is it safe to do so? I realize this is used for system recovery, but not sure just how. Thanks for any help. |

| Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | If its a .dmp file its a crash dump file. It's OK to clean it up. Glary Utilities cleaned up a .dmp file that was around 500MB in size. |

| Vista Ultimate x64; Win 7 x64 and x32 | Memory dump files are only necessary if you're having a problem with the system and want to use it to help diagnose the problem. In short, if you're unsure, leave any recent ones but delete those that are older. You can also set the system to create minidumps (which are much smaller) using this link: Change dump file location & size to Minidumps - Vox |

| Windows 7 , Vista | I agree. The 600 MB file = full kernel dump - that can go as each BSOD would overwrite it - location = \windows\memory.dmp The minidumps located in \windows\minidump - new ones are created using date as part of the file name. I would keep the newer ones as they can & do often aid in finding the cause of BSODs by showing a pattern (or not). I would consider "newer" ~ 3 months If you do find any minidumps, start a BSOD thread to have them looked at. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |
