Not a valid Win32

I know a lot of people have been having this problem, but I have yet to find a fix. I got this error when I tried to run several downloaded executables, including Open Office and Fox.com's Move video player. I tried run as administrator, redownloading and installing, etc. When I tried downloading the video player in a 32 bit browser, it wouldn't even download, and now it won't download in firefox anymore, either.

My computer is brand new, less than a week old, so there can't be anything wrong with it. I have AdAware and AVG anti-virus, and I've also tried disabling the firewall. I know next to nothing about the technical side of computers, and I'm new to Vista (and incredibly frustrated), so I really need some easy-to-follow help.

Run the System File Checker from an elevated command prompt (run as administrator). Can you try system restore and have you created restore discs?

The reason why you are getting this is because you are running 32 bit applications on a 64-bit OS, what you need to do is either check that your 64-bit OS is emulating programs in a 32-bit environment correctly or check why those 32-bit apps (perhaps there a 64-bit versions of them out there)
also check that you have all the 64-bit updates, and that you have the newest service pack.
