Vista freezes at green start up bar/freezes for a few seconds on desktop

I've an Asus f5sl laptop with Vista Home Premium (32bit) but it's been freezing on me lately.

When I boot up, it gets to the black screen with the green bar but after a few seconds, the green bar freezes and I can't log in. Occasionally it boots up after around half an hour but then Vista periodically freezes for a few seconds before resuming (which is annoying when trying to write out something etc)

I don't see any problems in Safe Mode so is possibly a driver? I've updated all my drivers, completely updated using WIndows Update, ran antispyware, used System Restore etc

Only problem is; I've moved to a new country, and like a fool, I left my Vista start up disk back home. Which I would otherwise have tried.

Thanks

Hey, thanks for the quick reply.

I tried running SFC (Start-Run-SFC and then Start-Run-SFC /scannow) but a black box appeared before disappearing almost instantly; is that suppsoed to happen?

boot into safemode the hit start/acessories/run

in the box type msconfig then hit return

goto the boot tab

put a check in "os boot information" and "make all boot settings permanant"

hot apply then boot as normal

this will get rid of the green bar and instead show whats being loaded , when it freezes let us know what the bottom line of info says (may be information on a specific driver or service thats loading and causing it to freeze)

its a longshot but worth a look

Did you run it as administrator ?.
Go to start>all programs>accessories> and right click on command prompt and select run as administrator, give that a go.
Good luck and post your results, thanks.

I checked the os boot information box and Vista said something about crcdisk before staying on a screen saying Microsoft Windows Version 6 Kernel 2 or something like that. When I got onto Vista, it kept freezing so much that I had to reboot in Safe MOde.

I've attached the results from the SFC.
