true admin account? :(

Hey guys.

I have one situation I cant seem to figure out. Ive followed all the steps for activating the hidden admin account on vista by going into the admin command prompt and putting in the command and then logging off, but when i log off, its still just my account on there..when i go under the list of user accounts it says mine and then one "unknown". Any ideas on how I can really activate the account? thanks :)

Hello Kaosvarkas, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Strange. Double check with this tutorial to see if it is the same as what you did. After you have logged off, you should have a Administrator (this will be the user name of it) user icon to select to log on to in addition to your current default account setup during the installation of Vista.

What happens when you try to log on to the unknown user?

I followed the steps in that tutorial and when I log off, nothing, just my own account.

The only time I can see that the unknown account is even there is when I go to configure advanced user profiles. If I go to manage other accounts, it just shows mine and the turned off Guest account. When I put in the command to activate the real admin account, it even says it was successful, yet when I log off to get on it, it isnt there.

It might help in some way for you to know this is a pre built pc from cyberpowerpc? Im thinking maybe they did something to it before i got it Im not sure..

Hey I tried what you said and still nothing. However here is something else I find interesting..on a lot of your tutorials it will say that at certain points a UAC window should come up to ask for permission or what not..this never happens for me, and I have UAC on. However, there have been several times when Ive tried to install a service like steam and it wont let me because I dont have the correct priviledges to do that. So I'm stumped really.

It sounds like you may already be logged on to the built-in Administrator. Is the name of your user account Administrator?

It says my account name and then underneath that it says Administrator. However, why cant I do things like Install services? It always says I need the right permission to do it. >.<

I would say backup anything that you do not want to lose and do a clean reinstall of Vista to start fresh again.
