Hello guys, i just wanted to know on what factors does the data transfer speed depend on.. and how can i increase it.

By data transfer. I assume you mean copy/move from one HD to another, correct?

factors include network adapter, cables, switches, routers cpu's, and memory

Could you be more specific about what you want to do?

Well i want to transfer a data of 325GBfrom an external HDD to my external HDD and it shows time remaining 4 hours... @ 23mbps. The are through USB 2.0 .
I am copy pasting...

theoretically USB 2.0 is capable of 40mbps (i think thats how i remember it if im wrong feel free to shout at me) but you'll never get close to that , 30 is going some , id say 23 was probably about right tbh

The transfer speeds are also affected by packet overhead, an cpu speed. this is a job for either firewire or gigabit ethernet. Do you only need to do this transfer once, or is it a recurring problem?

Actually it is that i have my friends HDD and i got to return it soon but my problem is that if i could decrease the time needed to copy paste it. It shows about 4 hours and i want to make it lower coz then the computer gets busy and nobody can use it...

Your computer can be used, but it will most likely be slow. For that transfer firewire or esata is better. Try copying the data in 30GB blocks too. You could also attach it to a NAS device and copy it form that over Gigabit Ethernet if your PC supports it.

I would go for the networked drive option, you can also use it to back up your data. If you have more than one PC in the house it would be visable to both.
