Re: Notification Area - System Icons

Hello Damo, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Desktops do not have the Power icon in the taskbar notification area only. They still have one in the Control Panel (Classic View) to adjust the power settings though. :)

Correct, depending on how you set the power plan settings. :)

Re: Notification Area - System Icons

i have looked into the power menu on in the control button it only gives me a choice when to send it to sleep is there a way i can make it shut down in a certain time instead of to sleep? thanks again mate :)

You cannot through the power plan settings, but you can do so with this workaround instead: :)

Create a shut down shortcut with a delay notice so you will know when it is about to shut down the computer.

Create a task in task Scheduler to run the shut down shortcut at the time you want your computer to be shut down.

thanks brink :D that is extrmely helpful also just wondering but say if i was copying some files and i wanted to go to bed is there a way i can tell the pc to shut off when the copying had finished? if so could you explain how that would be possible thanks again :)

Sleep or hibernation mode would be great for that type of situation. When the computer is done downloading, the computer would then go to sleep or hibernation after it sat idle for the amount of time you set in your power plan options.

Correct, but that is just the delay notice from the shortcut after you run the shortcut before the shortcut actually shuts down the computer to give you a chance to abort it. The time you want to set is the task in Task Scheduler to run the shortcut at.
