Vista Problem Help!

I have this mysterious problem in which during the night something happens in vista and I cannot open any programs. Either the vista circle just goes away quickly and nothing happens, or for example in Windows Media Center, it just brings up the error message that it has stopped working. Another specific symptom is that when I go to the arrow to select restart or shutdown, the menu refuses to show up! I hover over the arrow and click on it and nothing happens! A hard restart is sometimes required and then all is better.

I am running Windows Vista 32-bit along with AVG 8.5 Free Edition and IObit Security 360.

If anyone knows what these symptoms mean, feel free to share advice! Thanks everyone!

first thing first. we need info about your computer. can you fill in your system specs in the lower left corner of your posts so we know what hardware you have.

One place to investigate is event viewer (type event viewer in search)go to the windows log, application tab and look for errors (red "X" in lef thand column) that relate to anything that could cause your symptoms. tell us the event ID and source code for the most frequent one.

thanks

Uninstall one antivirus. They are probably conflicting. I'd keep AVG.

I am kind of thinking it has something to do with a program, and I mention AVG and IObit 360 because I feel as if they may be the culprit. I would like your opinions though :)

Kill Iobit 360, keep AVG and underclock your cpu.

So uninstalling IObit 360 did not help today the computer refused to open up any programs and when I went to load windows media center I got a "windows media center has stopped working error" - I also couldn't open up any other program. I tried ctrl + alt + delete and I got a black screen with this error "Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog - Failure - Security Options." I click OK and back to my desktop I go but I still cannot open programs...

This has stopped occuring on my desktop and is most prevalent on my laptop - The HP G60-125NR. I am running AVG Free 8.5 and have uninstalled IObit 360. I recently reformatted the Hard Drive so I see no reason for this to occur...my guess is it is software?? Can someone help?

Thank you all so much!

Get rid of the Iobit Advanced System Care junk, Wise cleaning junk and filehippo. Then reboot. They've probably corrupted your registry.
