Disabling Remote Differential Compression...

I've disabled this on other systems without a problem, but I have one that I cannot disable it on. In fact I can't seem to be able to change anything in 'Turn Windows features on/off'.

Vista Home Premium 32bit, I have administrator rights, UAC is turned off, and I have tried it in both normal mode and safe mode. It looks like it's working, then just tells me that 'An error has occured, and not all features could be changed'. Doesn't matter what option I try to change (enable/disable).

I've asked this in a couple other forums over the last couple of weeks with no response (except to tell me I need to be an administrator). Just wondered if anyone else has come across this. Thanks...

Don't disable UAC, otherwise you ruin Vista's security and reduce it to XP's level. Turn it on, reboot and try again.

Okay, I'm really, truly sorry if this comes across the wrong way, I do appreciate responses, but I don't want to turn UAC back on. I know that UAC has nothing to do with whether I can change anything in the 'Turn Windows features on/off', because I've changed features on dozens of machines with and without the UAC turned on.

This is an odd problem that I hadn't run into before, and I just wanted to know if anyone else has run into the issue and found a resolution.

Again, I really don't want to sound like an ass, but this always seems to be the kind of answer I get, which has nothing to do with the problem. How I have Windows set up, or why I want to change an option, isn't the issue. I'd just like to know if anyone might know of a reason why I can't seem to change any options in the 'Turn Windows features on/off'.

Thanks...

Run sfc /scannow at an elevated command prompt which should elevate automatically if UAC is off.

Thanks for that, Frostmourne. I'd run sfc on this machine a couple months ago when I started having a problem creating directories (turned out to be a rogue service issue), but hadn't run it since then for this issue. Just ran it and I do have some issues I have to look at. I'll post back about the outcome.

Appreciate you not taking offense (I hope) at my prior post, just that lately I've been having issues with support houses and their "read the questions from the screen" limitations. Being in support myself I understand starting with the basics, but it's been more frustrating than usual lately.

Thanks again...

Sorry but seriously I dont understand why people dont just google most questions I see asked

Tweaking windows Vista So it can run a bit faster - Increasing Performance On Windows Vista

I'm sorry, but I think I'm on the wrong forums. As I said, I'm in support. I've been a computer systems analyst and consultant in my own business for over 30 years, with 15 years as a consultant and analyst to the Department of Defense. I have at least a fair idea of what I'm doing.

I Googled dozens of search terms and looked at literally hundreds of Google pages before I finally started asking on a couple forums. Believe me, if this had an easy solution, I wouldn't be asking here.

Seriously, I don't understand how some people can just make assumptions and jump in with both feet. If you don't want people asking questions in these forums, mention it in the registration process. It would have saved me some time...

How is sfc coming along?

I don't think that's where my problem is, Frostmourne. I took care of a few minor issues, dropped the log, and re-ran sfc. I still have one issue with a manifest hash mismatch, but other than that it looks good.

This is an odd one. Guess I can beat my head against the wall or just give up till I get W7 on here, which shouldn't be long. I think it will be the latter. This was just irritating and the more I couldn't figure it out the more I wanted to know why.

Appreciate the nudge back to sfc to check, I'd missed that one on this. Well, back to real work...

Try this:

ocsetup MSRDC-Infrastructure /uninstall

You can also remove the entire component from the registry, so that it doesn't even show up in the "features" list. I will post that later.
