Internet Problem

Hello Everyone,
I'm new and need some help. I have a Dell XPS laptop loaded with Vista. Here's my problem. I have a wireless router that transmits a very strong signal. It shows the computer is receiving the signal from the router however it won't let me access the internet and gives me an "error". I've called my service provider (Time Warner) and all is fine from their end. I have a Netgear router and it is working fine. My work computer is also a Dell that is loaded with XP. My work computer and everyone who comes to my house with a wireless computer doesn't have any problems at all connecting to the internet. It almost seems like my XPS is not set up correctly but my XPS will connect with other wireless signals from my neighbor's routers. It doesn't make sense. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?

Thanks so much.

You may want to check your driver for your wireless card on Vista. Update if possible. See if there is a driver problem in the device manager.

** EDIT **

So you can dual boot on your pc? And, if so, the XP can connect?

Hi and welcome. My dell had the same problem. the steps I went thru include the suggestions of my collegues posts.

After the simpler stuff, like checking the driver, like ipconfig /all, which you should upload a screenshot of. there are some more involved things. We are going to need the wifi model and router model.

thanks

Ken
