Is it ok to disable ehTray.exe under msconfig/startup?

I am trying to disable unecessary items from starting up and I'm curious about one from Microsoft called ehTray.exe. It is located in C/windows/ehome/

I know it has something to do with it loading a system tray icon related to the Media Center, but where is the icon? I went into the ehome folder found the ehTray.exe icon and tried to open it but nothing happened, I guess because it's already running, but what exactly is this running? I found the media center icon under the start menu and clicked on its properties and its exe name is something different, so I'm confused.

Is ehTray.exe essential or can I disable it from startup without major consequences? Has anybody turned this off under msconfig?

Thanks.

Hi

ehtray.exe is a process is the tray bar process for the Microsoft Media Center. It gives you easy access to the digital media manager. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference.

Hope this helps

yeah turn it off ........ turn them all off!!!! ;)

the only issue you MAY have is if you use media center to watch DVD's etc it may come up with an error (a pop up message) when you stop watching and media player goess back to its "browser" state , i forget what the error actually is but you can just ignore it media player seems to work fine after.

If like me you dont use media player at all there are about three services (services.msc) associated with it you can safely disable (it still works after disabling these too ive no idea what they do , im assuming a hardcore media center user might come up with issues)
