Battery Not Charging!

I own a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4757 laptop, and when I plug in, the battery light comes on indicating it is charging. After 3 or so seconds, the light turns off. At first I thought it was just something wrong with the light, but when I turned the laptop on, the battery says "Plugged in, not charging" It has never done this before. Any suggestions?

Two possibilities - bad charger or bad battery. Hope for a bad charger, when is relatively cheap to replace. The cost of notebook batteries are outrageous. Also, see if there is a break in the charger wire by rotating the wire. If the light goes off and on, it's a break.

The computer is running off of the AC Adapter as we speak though. Would it still be a bad charger? Right now, I'm using no battery, all AC Adapter.

Very, very true. It's not the charger. I have one notebook that runs off the charger as well. Battery is bad and I just use it as another PC. Well, portable in the sense I can take it to a hotel, but not using battery.

I don't own a Sony computer though. That is for Sony.

PS Is it bad to remove your battery when it is plugged in to go from Battery Power to AC power?

Alright, so I talked to a Toshiba representative. My battery was at 99% when this happened. It just would stop charging. The representative said that the battery might shut off because it is overheating. She said to let it drain down to 50% and then try again. I did, and it works now. I'll let you know if it is a fluke and stops at 99% again. Otherwise, thanks for all the help.

This has never happened before. I wish I had one of those laptops that once the battery is charged fully, it uses AC power and saves battery life. That would be cool...but I dont. That's why I was worried.

Well, it did it again. Once it hits 99% it just stops charging. Usually continues to charge, even at 100%. I don't know what is happening, but I guess as long as my battery can still keep a charge, I can't complain.

Okay, it is getting worse basically every time I recharge it. It used to stop at 99%. Then it stopped at 98%. Now it's stopping at 97%. Have any of you heard of a battery doing this before?
