Hi everyone.

I have this huge problem and was searching good ole google for help and ran into this board and thought you guys could maybe help me. Here is my problem.

OS. Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2.
Dell XPS 420. Quad core Q9300 2.50ghz
4gb ram(don't know the make, sorry)
standard dell 24" lcd moniter
standard dell keyboard
Microsoft Sidewinder mouse.
750G Hdd, Radeon HD 3600 256mb.

This problem started today. And it seems like it started after I did a update via Spyware Doctor(PcTools) when the update was done it made Spyware Doctor crash then I kept getting an error that said something about cannot unpack. Well after that when I left my computer idle for a good 20,30,40 minutes I would come back to use it and my mouse would work but when I would go to open chrome or any program for that matter the computer would lock up. keyboard lights and all. I could keep clicking around until the display would eventually go black and then I would have to manually shut down(hold the power button) I even did a restore 5 days back thinking that might help but nothing. I am still getting the same problem. Does anyone know what this might be? has anyone ran into this same problem?

I would like to thank anyone in advance for helping someone with 1 post.
I usually try and say hello to everyone before I barge in somewhere and start asking for help but I am desperate!! I have to keep hard shutting down my comp and I know this is not good for my HDD!!!

So the problem is that as soon as you boot into Windows, you can't click on anything or else the machine will freeze?

If the above is correct, lets boot into safe mode, and disable the spyware program that caused the problems and see if that solves it.

It is not right when I boot up, it is when I leave my system idle for about 20-30 minutes. I will come back and if I try and open any program the computer will lock up, but if I just move the mouse and do the left click (like as if I am selecting multiple icons) and drag on the desktop it is fine the computer runs like normal. I can also hover over my task bar and it will show program information like Utorrent it will show my Upload/download rate and i'm fine, but if I were to try and dbl click U torrent to open it up to the desktop my comp will freeze up on me.

Ok.

So I went into safe mode and uninstalled Spyware Doctor. That is the only spyware/anti virus software I was using. When I restarted I got some weird errors, I was going to take a SS but the comp froze up. So I manually shut down and left it for the night. I came back this morning and booted back up and now it is running 100 X's better!!
I have no idea why Spyware Doctor is doing this. I have been using S.D for many years and never had problems. What sucks is I just paid 25bucks for my subscription and now the program is messing up my computer. Thanks for the advice and thanks for your quick help!! :)

The update that was downloaded could have simply been causing the problem within S.D. itself and causing it to hang the system. I'm glad your machine is running well again :)
