Hey,

Here is my laptop specs:

Asus M50vm Notebook
Core2Duo 2.26GHZ
4GB RAM

I have all the latest windows updates installed, including Service Pack 2. I also have latest BIOS installed.

I have already configured msconfig for start up applications and services.

But, still my computer boots very slowly.

Right now it takes about 1 minute and 20 seconds to boot up.

How do I get it to boot up faster?

1 minute 20 is not bad for Vista. I have seen a lot worse - like 6 minutes on a faster system than yours. The easiest way to make it really fast is to replace your HDD with an SSD. Then you are talking a few seconds boot time.

They are a very new technology for consumers - they are used primarily for big corporate servers and have only recently (in the last year and a bit) been released to consumers. the price tag doesnt justify the performance yet in my opinion, but check some out on newegg.com or something, maybe you are perfectly happy with a 40GB for 200USD i dont know, its storage vs price vs performance. up to you

I just bought this 80GB from Newegg for $189 ( Newegg.com - DANE-ELEC DA-SDM25-80G-N-T-MK 1.8" with 2.5" adapter SSD Migration Kit - Solid State Disks ). They had it on special with a coupon. It is a first generation Intel x18M meaning that it does not support Trim. That is OK for a Vista installation because Vista does not support Trim either.
For Win7, which does support Trim, I suggest a 60GB OCZ Vertex which sells for around the same price (if you keep watching the Newegg specials). Just make sure it has Firmware level 1.4 because if it is backlevel, you have to flash it (which is a daunting task). I talk from experience - LOL.
The advantage of the x18M is that it fits into a netbook because it is 1.8". The OCZ Vertex is a 2.5" which fits into a Notebook. But for both there are brackets to adapt them to 2.5" or 3.5" bays respectively.

As I said expensive, especially when you can get a 1TB notebook harddrive for around $80 on special (that's 1000GB if you didnt know awaisuk)

Right, but we are talking about 2 different things. One is for volume, the other is for size. They are not exclusive. I have 2 SSDs (60 and 80GB) for speed (on 2 different systems) and then another 2.5 TB of internal and external disks for volume. The SSDs are only for the operating systems (Vista and Win7) and the HDDs are for data. I find this setup to be optimal. It does more for speed than a lot of RAM (i mean more than 4GBs) and super fast CPUs that are not cheap either. I work with a Q6600 and an AMD 4800+ and see no need to upgrade those.

Yeah dont think I will buy that now. So any other tweaks I can do to make it faster? I tried all the tutorials and it did not help...

I don`t think there is anything else you can do. 1 minute 20 sec. is a pretty good score. As I said, it is driven more by the speed of your disk than anything else. Given you have a laptop, you probably have a slow 5400 RPM disk. That`s why I pointed to the SSD. My Vista system with a 7600 RPM disk which is pretty optimized does not boot much faster either. One thing I have observed though is that boot times seem to be a little longer since the installation of SP2. Now that is not a scientific measurement, just an observation.
With Windows 7 the boot times may be a little faster, but don`t expect miracles.
