Severe problems with vista

i got a brand new dell studio XPS laptop in june of 2009. the computer ran amazing at first. within the past few months however i have been encountering many problems. i find my computer freezing daily, multiple times. i have a lot of trouble getting wirelessly connected to the internet, many times my windows become unresponsive. my network and sharing center seems to be useless, when i try to connect or disconnect my computer freezes up. over all performance is low. programs run slower, browsing the web takes longer, shut down and start up times tend to take several minutes. the obvious answer is a virus. but i bought a 3 year subscription to mcafee security center with the computer and scans come up with nothing every time. i have tried EVERYTHING to get my computer running normally. i have cleaned up my processes, cleaned up start up programs, ive defragged my computer, scanned for viruses, cleaned up the registry, deleted programs, cleaned temp files and trash. i have also run a hardware diagonistics test at startup and everything came back to be working fine. i have no idea what else i could do. here are my system specs

core 2 duo @2.66ghz
4gigs of ddr3
NVIDIA Geforce 9500m
Vista home premium 64bit

i know my computer should not be running slow, computers half as good as mine run faster. i know theres a huge thing going on between NVIDIA and Dell because there have been some serious driver issues but none of my problems seems to deal with the video card. Any help would be amazing, im in college and dont have the time to send my computer away to get fixed, and with problems like this i wouldnt be suprised to send it in only to get a report saying everything works normally. i have also been considering upgrading to windows 7 since i can get a student discount on it. Could windows 7 solve all my problems?? or is vista not the problem.

I would recommend upgrading to 7 if you can get the student offer.
As for Vista, try replacing your security system with Microsoft Security Essentials.

It could and would be a good thing if you can get the student offer, but the main problem here is your security suite which is one of the worst (and I speak by experience, college forced me to have it on the virtual machine they installed on my laptop yet I have solved all of the problems I had simply by replacing it with the previously mentionned security program, running very slow was one of the problems)Had other problems with it in a time before college as well.

As the man said, get Win7 or reinstall your system. Get rid of McAfee and use MSE and you will be in the clear. I had product keys valid for another 2 years from Norton and Kaspersky. But I chose MSE. It's a fine security program.
