Hey I recently attempted to upgrade vista to 7 but i failed ]=
I kept on getting a bootmgr message so I just reverted back to Vista Home premium 64-bit and I only have 191 GB free of 580 GB. I believe most of it is in the backup in C drive but I can't delete any of it. Its keep saying "This folder is shared with other people. If you delete this folder, it will no longer be shared. Continue" and when I click continue it says the same thing. Then when I click continue again it says "destination folder access denied. You need permission to perform this action". How do I delete it?

Your scenario is not quite clear. Could you post a picture of disk management so that we know what is where. Also are you operating as administrator or from a user partition.
And what do you mean by that: " I believe most of it is in the backup in C drive " - are you talking about the shadowstorage? That could be easily fixed. If your C partition is 580GB, then your shadowstorage would be up to 87GB - and that is probably more than you want or need.

Half of your C partition (277GB) are free space. I don't know from where you get the 191GB number from. If you want to look at your shadowstorage, open Command Prompt as admin (you find cmd in All Programs > Accessories, Right click > run as admin) and type or paste: vssadmin list shadowstorage. Then hit Enter. Of the 3 numbers (used, allocated and maximum) it is the allocated that the system has grabbed at this moment.
Post the numbers and let me know whether you like to reduce it. Then I give you the command to paste in.

Initially I had 191GB but I deleted some of the backup which I could of deleted without doing anything. That is how I ended up with 277GB.

Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 61.049 GB
Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 63.843 GB
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 68.079 GB

I figured out a way to delete the backup by turning off UAC controls and taking ownership of the folders and now my C partition has 447 GB of free space.

I would like to reduce the shadow storage still. How do i do it?
