start-up takes 15 mins to load

My computer start-up really does take an average of 15 minutes to load when I start up. Every single time. Even when I shut it down, it takes 2-3 mins to do so. Once in awhile my firefox would freeze and I would use task manager to try and end the process, but it won't terminate. I try to open up another browser but it said that firefox was still running, so I had to restart the computer if I wanted to use firefox.

I've done restore to manufacture settings, and it hasn't done anything to help, even done a complete reinstall of vista, didn't work.

My Computer

hello
try this: start > (type) run (in the search box) > select run from the menu (click ok if prompt by uac)
type msconfig in the run box. click ok > select the startup tab and write down everything with a check in the box (probably everything. in witch case theres no need to write them down)
go back to the general tab.
now put a check in the "diagnostic startup" click apply and ok. you will be prompted to restart. select restart.

does it startup faster? if yes post back.
you will not be able to get on the internet the way the settings in msconfig are at this time so if you have another pc post back with that pc.
if you dont have another pc you will need to put the settings in msconfig back the way they were to post back. and we will go from there

good luck

now if it starts faster you are going to have to figure out what service(s) are hanging at normal startup

Is your hdd set 1st in the boot order? (in bios)
have you looked in device manager for any yellow or red signs of trouble?

I'm willing to bet that you've got conflicts between the AVG Internet Security and the ZoneAlarm.

Uninstall the ZoneAlarem and reboot to see if that helps.
If not, then uninstall the AVG and reboot to see if that helps.
Here's a list of other, free antivirus': Free AntiVirus

My Computer

It's not the zone alarm and avg conflicting.

Right now I just gave up and did a restore to factory setting but it didn't do anything to solve the 15 min boot up problem. I'm wondering now if it's a hardware problem.
