Vista home premium laptop HP problem

original

I got a problem with my lap top HP it uses Home premium Vista 64bit. I reformatted the entire system. I don't have home premium vista cd to recover it, so i used vista ultimate 64 bit, when it starts to read the CD it stops and it cant go any further so it stops installing. However so i tried to down grade it to windows XP Pro, it does totally different it says there is no hard drive detected. But now i tired to install Linux Mint, and it works ta da but i don't want to use Linux. What the hells the problem it cant be my hard drive, because it gets detected even though my XP says its not there the cd works on the other computers that i have, so it cant be CD. I played with BIOS i set to defaults, i put the proper boot still same old thing. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

you probably need to install hard disk controller drivers. (press F6 when prompted by setup). most likely you need a SATA driver, or a RAID driver. find that driver and put it on a usb stick. make sure its not a zip file or an .exe file. you will need to know what chipset you have.

1. The Vista installation - is your Vista Ultimate a genuine Microsoft retail disk with original product key, etc. - if yes, it should install. Anything else won't.
But why did you not try to reinstall from the recovery partition. That would have been the easiest. If you reformatted the entire system (how did you do that anyhow?), you probably lost your recovery partition. And since you apparently did not burn your installation DVDs from the recovery partition, you lost that one.

2. The XP problem - as was said, you need the proper Sata driver for your XP. You have to find that from HP. But that is not the end of your problems - you need to find ALL XP drivers for your laptop (if they exist, which I doubt if that is a recent laptop). Then you must slipstream those drivers on your XP installation disk. For that you can use nLite ( nLite - Deployment Tool for the bootable Unattended Windows installation ). My guess would be that you get stuck on the driver question. But I don't want to discourage you, try to find them anyhow.
3. Linux is a nice option and it is free. Since you destroyed your Vista and XP hangs in the balance, that may be your best bet. And if you have to buy a new operating system, you might as well go with Windows7. Then you are up-to-date.

Open up the sp****.exe file that you downloaded from HP and when it says extract, extract it to a convenient location (lets use Documents\SATADriver). After it extracts, if another installer opens, close it/cancel it.

Run nLite and insert the disc. Then let it detect (it will copy the files to a location on your computer. Then select "Drivers" so that it has a green dot. When you get to that section, navigate to Documents\SATADriver and select the .inf file (there might be a couple select anyone, or it might be inside a subfolder so look around). Select all of it's files. Once that is done, the built in wizard will burn the ISO.

Sorry, was partying last night...

Here's the CORRECT driver from HP. Those drivers are messed up... could possibly corrupt your computer.

Open up the sp****.exe file that I attached and when it says extract, extract it to a convenient location (lets use Documents\SATADriver). After it extracts, if another installer opens, close it/cancel it.

Run nLite and insert the disc. Then let it detect (it will copy the files to a location on your computer. Then select "Drivers" so that it has a green dot. When you get to that section, navigate to Documents\SATADriver (or wherever you extracted the driver) and select the .inf file (there might be a couple select anyone, or it might be inside a subfolder so look around). Select all of it's files. Once that is done, the built in wizard will burn the ISO.

POWER TO UNIX, lol. I have a MAC, which is like a Linux, except its not.

Anyways, see if you can find drivers for your computer + Linux.
