vista boot problems

ok, i've read the help posts so i'll lay down some facts

the machine is a dell latitude D530, windows vista business, 2gb of ram
i'm a .net developer so i guess i can take any level of advice

i was in firefox browsing and the laptop froze so i rebooted, this happened again so i rebooted again, now it gets to the boot screen and just keeps going through the progress bar and the (c) microsoft screen forever and ever

i have an oem vista disc that came with it and i placed it in the drive, selected boot from dvd and it went through the loading windows files screen and then got to the msoft/progress bar screen for about a minute and then a blank screen with no hdd/dvd activity.

i ran system diagnostics from the bios menu and all hardware checks out. i've also checked all cables, etc and everything is good

i've tried last known good config and same problem as above

i've tried safemode and it gets stuck at crcdisk.sys so i figure the problem is with the file structure on the hdd.

anyone know why the boot from dvd would happen like above. I have downloaded a vista recovery iso but until i can get to work i can't burn it to a disc (snowed in today- bloody weather!)

any help is appreciated

i'm not sure you understand. i can't get to the recovery console. when i put my installation disk in and select to boot from it, the load windows files progress bar runs through, then the machine goes to the normal boot progress bar and then a blank screen :(
i don't get as far as the shiny vista logo

Read your computer manual. There is a combination of f keys that you hit during boot, to set to factory specs. It will be like day one. No programs,,nothing. But, this will be a way to solve the problem.

In lieu of anything else, this last resort is worth a thought.

I understand.

If WinRe won't load - it might indicate a problem with the partition table.

can you boot and load

Partition Wizard Bootable CD

Make sure NUM LOCK is on when it asks about screen resolution - press1 - press enter.

if not , try this:

gparted-live-0.3.9-4.iso direct download

It stops 3 times asking about keyboard and screen res - just press enter each time - the defaults are fine.

If the partitions are ok ( also make sure system partition is marked active) - have a look with this

Select Normal Mode

Try saving your data with the file transfer wizard.
