Hi again,

Forget to mention in my last post: If you don't have a recovery DVD or a reinstall disk with recovery capabilities, you can download the CD with recovery capabilities only here:

Windows Vista Recovery Disc Download — The NeoSmart Files

Do the download, burn the iso to a CD, and follow the instructions in my last post.

Hi,

I am slightly confused as to what went wrong. If you think it is the disk, try the link I sent you in my second post, however, can you give me a few more details?

Is this a black screen, offering you Normal Boot or Safe Mode, or is this a blue screen? If it is a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), can you get into Safe Mode?

You ran Start up Repair, and it said success, but then this happened. This sounds like a standard failure to me. Try the Command Prompt solutions posted above. Does this help? Can you be as specific as possible?

Thanks very much,

Richard

I'm very sorry if i am confusing you... i found out that i didn't install the os correctly due to the corrupted Disc i made when i first bought the computer from retail store. At first it gave me the problem about my bootmgr. wasn't found and now it tell my i didn't install the OS correctly. the bad part is that i'm the 99.9% of the people who don't have the installation disc. i try to install the OS from the disc that the web provide but it didn't work because of install.wim wasn't found.

Thanks you very for your time to help.

My Computer

Unfortunately, the disk from the web will not contain install.wim (all the Windows files compressed) all it does is provide the repair tools. If you would like, we can continue working to get your vista to reinstall.

thanks... but i got window 7 H.P. already for $300. but can you tell me how to delete the bad sector in my hard drive... it's use to be 300(320GB) but now only show 48GB... i try reformat it but i still got the same result. I think the rest of the memory are use up on the old OS...

Thanks you again in advance....

To check your drive for bad sectors, and mark them as such:
Run ScanDisk on the drive in Windows , or run a chkdsk on the drive in Windows XP & 7

To reclaim sectors that are marked as "bad":
Find a utility such as WipeDrive that will write zeros to the entire hard disk, or use the standard windows format command
running "chkdsk x:" where x is your drive letter. The manual scan options are:

  • /F Fixes errors on the disk.
  • /V On FAT/FAT32: Displays the full path and name of every file on the disk. On NTFS: Displays cleanup messages if any.
  • /R Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information (implies /F).
"CHKDSK x: /F /R" would perform a full scan (including bad sectors) and attempt to fix them.
