Why can't I run any .exe Applications unless I click on 'run as admin' ?

Hi, I have never had this problem before, until today when the infamous fake "Vista atnivirus 2010" somehow got into my system, with its unstopable topups that would never end until I did this.

the program was av.exe, and is indicated in task manager as “av.exe *32″. This is a hidden file in the folder (user)/AppData/Local. To resolve this issue, I did the following:
1. Start task manager.
2. Right-click the file in task manager
3. Select the option “Open containing folder”.
4. Close task manager
5. In the open folder window, select Tools-Folder options-View
6. Uncheck “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
7. Start task manager again, then find and end the culprit process.
8. Close task manager again, and return to the folder window.
9. Locate and delete the culprit file.
10. Create a blank text file “av.exe”
11. Change the properties to read-only, and hidden.
12. Reboot to ensure the virus is not active.

then put the setting back to defult, and the virus was gone, I restarted. and to my amazement i can't get into any of the apps, without clicking 'run as admin'.

Most of the applications in my task bar have disappeared. THis is the first time i have this problem, never had a virus before, I dont know whether this is due to settings or the virus (which has been removed)

can someone help, please?

Welcome

Run a thorough A/V scan

Download and run malwarebytes.

If you are sure that all virus and malware are gone, try a system restore from before the problem

There is a good possbility that the default settings may have erased restore points. Let me know.

Regardless of the solution to this problem, scan with your A/V and malwarebytes weekly

hi thanks for your reply,

I have just done as you said, for both spyware and malware.

but the messages keep coming up for every .exe file

this is an example

C:\program files\mozilla firefox\firefox.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

I have to right click and run as admin for it to work, any suggestions?

Hi again and thanks for your reply.

those instructions are for one file at a time, correct me if I'm wrong. The problem that I have is all the .exe files are not working. Is there a way for me to do them all at once?

cheers,
osman
