E recovery drive on Vista

I keep getting a message that my recovery drive E is almost full and I need to delete some of my programs. My C drive is fine and has plenty of room. I have talked to Dell and the tech man was not following my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 x64 bit. He said I would just have to put up with this message and not to delete any of the recovery drive. I don't think he is right. When I follow the directions..it says to delete all of my recycle (which I did) and free up disc space.( I did that too) no matter what I do, it will not help the full recovery drive E.
Any suggestions?

Hi,

You MUST NOT delete anything from your Recovery drive. Doing so may remove your ability to repair your computer if it crashes. However, if you wish to disable the low disk space prompt, then here is how to do it. It will however, apply to ALL your hard disks, not just your Recovery drive. Another way round the problem would be to slightly expand your Recovery drive, though I will not recommend this.

  • Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialogue. In the Run box, type regedit and click OK.

  • In the Registry Editor, locate the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

  • If you want to disable the low disk space check for all users, use this key instead:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
    CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

  • If it does not exist, create a new DWORD entry with the name: NoLowDiskSpaceChecks, and enter a 1 as the value.

  • Close the Registry Editor.

I will try this, but I have a son that has a computer shop, I am thinking about upgrading to Windows 7 for about $80.00 .. Has anyone had any problems with upgrades? Vista and I get along pretty good until now. I would really rather have XP again, but that seems like stepping backward.

TY for the rep. Make sure that when you bring it into the shop, you get a clean install.
Your Son will know how it is done and he will agree that is the best way.

The best of luck to you.
