Desktop Background

Hi
I am running Vista Basic upgraded to Home Premium. For some time I have not been able to set a picture as my background. If I set a picture as my background it does not show on my desktop. All I have is a solid colour which I can change. If I use the switch between windows feature of Aero I can see the background but only after I have selected my desktop from the available windows and use the switch between windows feature again. The picture never shows up on my desktop.
I did have a problem with Aero at one time when it would load up when I boot up but as soon as my desktop loaded Aero stopped working. I did get this sorted out by uninstalling and reinstalling my graphics card.
I hope this makes sense. I know it is not a big problem but I would just like to be able to set a picture as my background.
Thanks in advance

You may, without realizing it, have "Sample Pictures" selected as the place the system searches for your Desktop Background pictures. To change that, right-click your Desktop and go to Personalize, Desktop Background, and in Location, change the selection. If you, for example, select Pictures as your location, you can choose any photo in your Pictures file to use as your Desktop Background, and, of course, you can put any picture you choose into that file.

Hi
I have tried different locations for images. Even if I set Windows Wallpapers as my backgrounds they still do not show on my desktop. I have just noticed that if I close down the Windows Sidebar part of the image I set is there where the sidebar was but only for about 1 second. Then it reverts to the solid colour.
Thanks

Hi,

Please run "SFC". See this tutorial by Brink: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

Once you have done this, please upload your log file if errors were detected in zip format, and download, install and run the free Malwarebytes Anti-malware.

Be aware that the problem may be stemming from you upgrading your copy of Home Basic to Home Premium, rather than clean installing. Did you do anything specific before this problem started happening?

Richard

Hi
I ran sfc/scannow. Result was 'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations'. I then ran Malwarebytes which I have on computer. it found only one item which was a Trojan Downloader in Temporary Internet Files, which will be removed when I restart.
I am not sure how long I have not been able to set a picture as my background. As I said I can still set pictures as background it is just that there seems to be another background in front of it.
