Need Help With This One

Hi all,
My desktop shortcuts with the program Icons have a white/windows shield over them. I can see the actual Icon behind the white. This occurred after I uninstalled an Adobe program Photoshop Elements 8.0


What I have tried:
1. Delete the icon and create a new one. No change.
2. Change icon in properties. No change the new one appears with the covering.
3. System Restore to an earlier point. No change all the desktop icons are covered over. Any ideas?

Have you tried rebuilding the icon cache ?, this tutorial will show you how, also, do a search on the forum, i have seen this somewhere before, but cant remember how it was resolved.
Good luck and post your results.

It is worth a try to go to the Adobe home page and Update the latest
drivers.

Hi stoney,
Thanks for the response. Followed the instructions but no change. The desktop looks the same. It appears that there is one shortcut overlaying another if you look at the screenshot I posted. I wonder if there are two files in the registry at the same time? I dunno? I will try the other posters suggestion on the driver update and see what happens. If you have any other ideas please let me know.

What program was it you un-installed ?.
Try re-installing, see if your icons come back, if they do, go to the makers site and see if there is an un-installer for that particular program.

Your perseverence is amazing and greatly appreciated. The 'Icon Overlay' problem has been solved. :D

To solve this dilemma:


Do this:
Download and run:

Restart and then the overlay on the icons disappears.

Thank you 'Imperfect1' for the reply. I do recall now removing the shortcut arrows from my desktop about a 3 weeks ago. Didn't think this was related; but it was. Those 'overlays' are what the system replaced the arrows with 'cause I deleted them. DUH! Well all is well now.
