You should be able to right-click on your C drive in Disk Management and extend it to the end of contiguous free space. Are you saying that this doesn't work? Is the "Extend volume..." menu item grayed-out?

If I'm understanding your initial post correctly, you're getting conflicting information. One route, once suggested to me by a professional much more skilled than I, was to run SeaGate SeaTools for Windows. Even if your drive is NOT that brand, it will offer good tests. Lavalys (company) makes Everest, as well, a PHENOMENAL diagnostic software suite that is pretty handy. NOTE: If you use it, go to "Reports," "Generate System Report" (or full report,) "Save as TXT," (Save to desktop,) then you can uninstall the software.

With all the oddities out of the way (bear with me, I'm a little tired and that all may have been moot...,) let's look at the partition situation.

At risk of being tarred-n-feathered by everyone, I grabbed a rather nice summary from another site which nicely explains what Partition Magic CAN'T do!

In my humble opinion, it's all about the less-third-party-software-the-better, unless, of course, it's convenient or time-saving. I suppose it's balance.(?)

Below is the URL. Hopefully this aides in your efforts!

I apologize; the link at the bottom helps explain it better than I could.

The previous posts were a bit difficult to interperet; I simply offered some ideas for diagnostic utilities if options were missing or unavailable.

I am again, sorry, for any long-windedness or confusion I caused!
