Welcome

Type event viewer in search and look for errors that can cause the crash.
Next time that you boot, type process explorer in search, and look for any program, etc, that is using most of your resources.

In search type cmd, do not hit enter>right click and run as administrator. In the cmd prompt type sfc /scannow. You will get a report of corruption and an attept to fix them.

check if you have vista sp1, before sp1windows vista was very bad with drivers and things. sp1 solved most of vista's problems, if you have sp1, try to download sp2 which provides support for more drivers

Nice post richc46, that should be the first step in the protocol to
determine if someone needs to clean their machine.

Hello qwertyuio,
If all come up clean on the file check, run the Memory diagnostic tool, or download and run Memtest.
Good luck and post your results.

Hey first of all thank you all so so much 4 all your help. You are all very helpful.

In event viewer it says theres a total of 3294 errors. Should i write out what they all are? When i booted and typed process explorer in search it said nothing matched my search.

When i ran that as administrator it said it windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the cbs.log windir/logs/cbs/cbs.log. For example C:/windows/logs/cbs/cbs.log
C:windows/system32>.

Sorry for being so clueless but any further help would be appreciated again.

But any time i update anything on my laptop it gets evan worse. Either one of the cards, like the sound card stops working or it stops starting properly and says i need to restore it or it says that adobe flash player cant read the update or something like that....

My Computer

You have to run sfc /scannow a few times as it won't fix all corrupted files at one go.

Hi quertyuio,
You are infected and you have to have your machine cleaned. your description suggests a Trojan. Trojans have the nasty habit of attaching themselves to valid Hive Keys and have to be cleaned manually. I have supplied a link where you can get free help to solve this problem Here.

try going into safe mode, run virus scans and sfc /scannow command, run tune up utilies, run anti virus scans. doing this in safe mode is best because it blocks extra programs to start up [those exra progs may have viruses attached to them]. also follow the guides under mods and tutorials section of Computer Modifications - Home which will make your computer faster. also under safe mode, check if you havve vista sp1/sp2 installed for latest driver support. also post your system specs here plz. if i helped plz give me rep points as im in need of some [scales of upper right hand corner of this post] good luck.

I went into safe mode ran the sfc/scannow twice but it just said the same thing- Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Ran virus scan in safe mode which took like an hour but at the end it found no infections or warnings or anything else. I was using the free version of Avg. However it did say Locked file. Not tested after many things. At the top of the screen in safe mode it said - Build 6002: service pack 2 which i presume is the Sp1/Sp2 thing I was asked about?

well your systems specs are fine to run vista without any problems, so we can rule out hardware configuration. i think that your vista is running slow because of drivers. ill get back to you later.
