First, I leave my pc on over night. Starting a few weeks ago this started. I would wake up everyday and my pc has restarted by itself. I was up late one night and noticed it was windows update causing this, why is it doing it every single night and how to I get this to stop? I feel like I've had nothing but problems with it.Second thing is, about 3 days ago I had a pop up from my ISP comcast that said I could download norton anti virus since my mcafee was expired. I did this and had no problems with it so far. Now since yesterday I can't go on certain websites, Nike.com is one of them, it just shows a black page and thats on internet explorer. I also cannot even get firefox to open at all, and the same thing with AIM. Another problem I've noticed is the windows side bar where you can add the widgets like weather, etc doesn't work, the weather widget shows a white box instead and above my gmail widget it has a little loading icon and says secure.Is there anyway I can fix any of this? Go to Control Panel > Security > Windows Updates > In the top left corner there should be "Change Settings" Click that. Then set the "important updates" drop list to "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to download and install them"
This should fix the restarting problems you are having. Just make sure you install updates when you can though, Updates make your computer more secure, and have better performance.
And about your Antivirus, You should download Microsoft Security Essentials. It's a free antivirus service, simple interface, but powerful protection. I use it myself with Windows Firewall. I recommend it to everyone.

Then.. About your web browser problems. It kinda sounds like a virus, or a plugin got disabled. I would do a System Restore to the time where you knew everything was working right and then install MSE. Scan for viruses, and then if nothing comes up, I think you may be missing a plug-in to view the website, such as Adobe Flash, or Adobe shockwave. I'm really certain what Nike.com uses, but I think it's adobe flash.

Cool, thanks for the help on the restarting problem. Any clue why some websites won't load and the windows sidebar isn't working right? I can't even open norton now, its just a white screen. It seems like anything that has to do with flash doesn't load. I have the newest flash player but for some reason this problem started this morning.Thanks for the help so far.

That's weird about Norton. I don't really recommend Norton, because I just notice Problems from it, as well as it hogging system resources. Since it is expired, I would uninstall it, and install MSE, or if you don't want to use it, you can try Avast Antivirus, and Malware Bytes.

I tried a system restore and still doesn't work. I tried going to adobe and download the flash player but when I click the link to download it, nothing happens. I'm not sure what else I can do, it seems everything I try to do something stops it.

I go back into check it and its clicked onto off (not recommended). Should it be on or off?this is a headache

i would turn windows firewall on. That's weird stuff happening... It sounds like malware. Can you install another browser to see if you can get your internet to work?

I turn it on but it won't stay on I guess since I go back and check on it and it says off. I currently have 2 browsers. Internet Explorer and Firefox. I'm using IE to post on this website and go to any other websites that it lets me. Firefox doesn't load up at all. I click on the shortcut and it loads for a second then nothing.I clicked on a few of the links given to download stuff recommended but it only let me download the avast antivirus. I tried uninstalling norton to see if maybe that was causing problems but nothing worked.All these problems started ever since my computer started restarting itself late at night with windows updates.

Im running the avast anti virus now, hopefully something comes up.Another thing I noticed, some websites have little icons at the top left of the browser. Well I noticed some aren't right. There will be a nike check logo on a site that has nothing to do with nike. I thought all of the virus' were gone. I did have a trojan horse virus but norton deleted it before.

Avast is still running a full system scan..only on 41 % and its been an hour so far. 3 infected files

Finally after 2 and a half hours avast completed and detected 3 things. All 3 with high severity. I've never used this so I'm not sure what to do next, do I repair, move to chest or delete the 3?

I tried to repair the 2 files that have to do with java...one is win32:malware-gen and the other is win32:FakeAlert-HG[Trj]. Those 2 files wouldn't repair and I deleted the 3rd file since it was only music. I'm not sure if I should delete the other 2 or not?

You can disable automatic-updates, that should temporarily prevent it from restarting, until you get the updates successfully installed.
As for the programs not opening, I would guess that would be the Norton Firewall blocking them from starting.
