Hi, the link is very useful.. I am using the Phoenix Bios, Tried to remove the Cmos Battery and left it for 30mins.. it didn't work..
>>can';t use that software as the harddisk is already formated..
>> Tried the defaults passwords but none are right..

My problem is that i can't make the laptop boot from cd.. so that i can install the windows..

Try this one ashvin How to Reset / Remove / Bypass a BIOS or CMOS Password? - Tweaking with Vishal. This deals with the Phoenix Bios. Let me know, I will try and help you do research for a solution.

Ok.. I am acting dumm now.. Actually removing the cmos battery did nothg.. can't use any softwares as no operation sytem on the machine..
I am actually imaging my actual os on the hard drive of the other machine.. My laptop is a compaq and the other machine is an acer.. dont know if that will work and give me the chance to boot up the windows to be able to run the prompt command or any cmos softwares!!!
I coudnot find the jumper on the motherboard
the laptop model is Acer Extensa 5220!! Do you have any idea where the jumper is..

Alright ashvin,
I think I understand your problem. You need a boot up disk to get started. Go here Bootdisk.Com - Free Windows Bootdisks, Free DOS boot disk, they have every free boot up disk available. I hope I'm understanding your problem correctly.

Hi guys.. I got this one fixed
what I did is took out the hard drive.. put it in another laptop.. run the recovery cd- when it ended I did not restart the laptop but switched it off then transferred the hard drive to the other laptop with the bios issue..
It continued with the windows setup.. then once it booted up I runned killcmos software to take out the bios password..
