On prog uninstall some elements remaining

Hi folks.

Not sure this is the correct forum for the topic, but anyway......

On a number of occasions, after uninstalling a prog, a message box tells me that there are elements of the prog remaining and that these can be removed manually.

It does not suggest a way of doing this.

Can anybody describe how this may be accomplished.

Thanks.

Sometimes all it means is the program created a file in the install folder under Program Files. Many installers, such as Inno Setup, will only delete the install folder if the files in it are the ones it copied in. IOW, if you put a text file in that folder or the program created an .ini file, the uninstaller doesn't want to delete that folder because you might want the information in the file(s).

Most of the time you can just go inside Program Files and delete the folder where the program was installed.

Hi Bare Foot

Thanks for your reply.

Will mess with the registry after a good nights sleep!!

As a matter of interest, how safe is CCleaner in terms of purging the registry of accumulated rubbish? I have just downloaded and installed it, and it presents an enormous list of obsolete reg entries.

Edit here:
And thanks to MilesAhead for the suggestion. Looked for the prog folder and it did still exist and contained a help file that had not been removed as part of the uninstall.
