Hi,
I am trying to watch .mov and mp4 video files in wmp and just can't get it to work. I've tried loads of codecs and none of them are working (k-lite codecs pack, x-vid, div-x, 3ivx, ffdshow). Can someone help with this? I really want them to work in wmp instead of installing another player. thanks, Alex

Hello Darkeale Welcome to VF,

Try the Shark Codec pack for Vista
Shark007.net - Windows Vista Codec Package apply that and see whether you can get that to work !!

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply. That codec allows me to watch the mp4 files but i still can't watch .mov files. I get the following error-

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

I know the file is ok because it opens in VLC. Any idea why it won't work in wmp? By the way I recently had itunes and quicktime on my computer but have now uninstalled them. Could this be affecting my system still?

If I click web help on the error message i get this page-

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/wi...&id=C00D11B1&contextid=83&originalid=80004005

Thanks,
Alex

Hello Alex,

Well that also might be the problem because the *.mov is a part of Apple codec. For that you might need 3ivx codec. Follow this link and download it Playing Mov files via WMP

Hope this helps,

Hi,

I've already tried that codec and it didn't work either.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

This is a wild guess that might work !! Remove all the alternative players like VLC, K-lite codec, what ever maybe remove everything and remove all the codec packs then reboot the system just install the Shark codec and 3ivx codec and Quick time palyer.

Hope this helps,
Captain
