Solved What is the Default Vista Premium Password

New Member
Brand new PC.
Vista Home Premium operating system.
Worked straight out of the box.
There was no setup procedure to enter my details etc; it just worked.
I renamed "admin" under accounts to "my name", but nothing else.
I just presumed this was the way to setup my account, without having multiple account users.
I'm the only one who'll use the PC and I don't need a password, so didn't bother to create a password.

Turned PC off and on again:
It wants a password!!
I never created a password!!
There's nothing in the operating instructions that came with the system about the default password.
Why does this thing want a password.
More importantly, how can I get past the logon screen when I don't know what password it is wanting me to put in.

I can't use the recovery disc because I haven't created one yet.
The PC is only 10 minutes old!!!
I was going to create a recovery disc once I installed all my software.

I can't find any other similiar questions in the FAQ's or Forums, but can't believe I'm the only one this has happened to.
Any help with this request will be much appreciated.

Regards

You may be able to use Safe Mode..... depending on your system it will require continuous pressing of F2 or F8 (other "F") on boot
Boot into safe mode
Go to accounts where you should be able to reset/change/disable name accounts and passwords

Hi,

Because your computer is brand new, I am sure your manufacturer will help you for free, but here is a method to try to remove the password (you will need access to another PC or mac)

Go to: http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ and click “Bootdisk” at the top. Scroll down to about half-way to the download page. Download the latest CD release and extract the zip file.

Install the HP tool included with this post, start it, and select a blank memory stick. Make sure ALL data is backed up, as the memory stick will be wiped. Select FAT and type a Voulume name if you wish. Check create a DOS start up disk, and select the downloaded CD image. If this does not work, after the format, just drag the contents of the CD archive onto your memory stick.

Once you have made your memory stick, boot into it (you may have to change your BIOS settings) and then follow the instructions in the walkthrough provided by the site. I have included a copy of this walkthrough as a Word document. I have also listed a summary of which buttons to press. Follow these instructions exactly. This will work from NT to Windows 7, and so many options do not apply to Vista, and you will do much damage in running them.

Here is the summary (and included at the bottom of the document) :

· Enter
· Select Windows partion using numbers then enter
· Enter
· 1 then enter
· 1 then enter again
· Enter account name then enter
· 1 then enter
· ! then enter
· q then enter
· y then enter
· n then enter

I would recommend following the walkthrough, and only using the summary to check you have not missed a step. I would recommend printing off the walkthrough, though you could have it on another computer screen.

Richard

Sorry about that Bare-foot-kid.
I thought the PC make wouldn't matter all that much.

HP Pavillion s3680a
I think it may be 64 bit not 32 bit, but Inever got a chance to check that out.

Any help, much appreciated.

Have you tried just leaving the password field blank?

Hey,
Yes I tried that, but I've just noticed an interesting thing.

The field has a greyed out "Password", (? the default password).
I can't use backspace or delete to erase it, but if I hit end it disappears.
The really strange thing is when I move the mouse to click the Go arrow, as soon as the cursor moves away from the blank field, "Password" pops back in again.
Obviously then I'm not trying to login with a blank password, because the PC has put text back in the field.

Really strange, and becoming a bit of an annoyance.

My Computer

Thanks for the tip but the registry shouldn't be corrupted, as the PC hasn't been connected to the internet as yet, so no malware could have gotten in. There wasn't a big crash; it turned off normally after the first and only start.

Further to that, I can't run the vistra registry checker anyway, because I can't get the thing to run windows in the first place !!

I wish I could run the registry checker, because that would mean I am "IN" !!

My Computer

Ignore my last post.
I saw a registry checker comment last time I looked, but it's not there now.
It was at the bottom of the list, so I presumed it was a reply to my question.
It must have been a pop-up.

My Computer

The problem has been fixed, but unfortunately I can't report what the cause of the error was.

I took it back to the shop where I purchased it from, and they did a password bypass trick with special software they have.

Thanks for those who tried to help me with this problem.

Hello again jofnui.
