Programming keyboard keys

Hi,

I just got my hands on a MS 3000 wireless keyboard. This thing is nice. Anyway you can program/reset just about all the keys. My wired keyboard had a power button, this one has no power button...you know that you can shutdown windows with a push of a button. Well, since I can reassign keys I need to 'browse' to the command vista uses to shutdown. Any one know it ?

Thanks,
kevin

Thanks Rich,

I didn't want a shortcut but I took the command from the tutorial and set it to a key and presto, now I have my shutdown key. Thanks for that.

With my wired keyboard I could turn on the computer from a powered off state with a key combo which I set in the BIOS, but it says for a PS/2 keyboard.
Now I got this wireless keyboard and the setting wont work. I guess PS/2 means a wired keyboard.

Any ideas how I can power-up with this wireless keyboard ?

Thanks

I am truly happy that I was able to give you some support with your first question, but I do not know how to power up from the keyboard. Hopefully other members with expertise in this area will come by to lend a hand.

I got this FYI:
"
I guess PS/2 means a wired keyboard.
It has to be a PS/2 keyboard because the software that drives the keyboard is built into the BIOS chip and is operational as soon as power is applied.
You probably couldn't even do what you describe with a USB keyboard which is also wired as the software for that has to be first loaded by the BIOS and to do that the computer has to be running.
It should be remembered that with the ATX power supply there is always a small amount of current being supplied to the motherboard as long as power is available although everything appears to be turned off and lifeless.
This is to allow things like Wake on Lan, Wake on Ring and to work. Even the On/Off button at the front of the computer needs some software support from the BIOS to work."

ps/2 doesnt mean wired, it means personal 2, from IBM i think? it was a computer. a type of connection to mouse and kb to the comp. anyways, whats wrong with pressing the button on ur computer case to get ur computer turned on. usb = universal serial bus also wired, unless u r not using wireless. basically u can turn on ur computer without turning on the psu is that the motherboard sends power on signal to psu, thats it.

With some keyboards you can use a USB to PS/2 adopter ( about $5.00) and it also depends if you got a PS/2 connector on the back of your comp. Some newer ones don't. It should be on the back top about 10 mm round

oh, I getcha. I have an adapter, i'll try that to see if i can trick the bios.

Not a great big deal turning it on by the case button. I have my computer in a CPU closet under my desk because it has 7 fans in it and it is loud; and I don't wanna open and close the door all the time because the hinges are weak, (i'm probably being too picky).

well the adapter didn't allow me to do what I was thinking.

I reverted back to my ps2; I popped off and cleaned each key and found it was a spill-proof keyboard and now it is like new.
