I think what the OP means is the summary on the first page of Cleanup says he can recover 2 GB or so of disk space. He runs the cleanup. But his free space is still 205 GB. Just the same as before running Cleanup. IOW, it does nothing afa he can tell.

You don't say the service pack level of Vista. But I would recommend just using CCleaner. It now has a function to remove all but the last restore point, same as on the 2nd page of Disk Cleanup. Also Vista does not have the slider to limit the Shadow Copy storage as XP(restore point space limitation as percentage of drive space) and W7 has.

In Vista you can do it using an Administrator Command Prompt with this command:

vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage /For=C: /On=C: /Maxsize=24GB

(The example sets the limit at 24GB. Just substitute the number you prefer.)

i did that .i resize it to 8 gb .
the fisrt time i resize it to 5 gb .but i figure that was not snuff so i resize it to 8 .
this why i am back up above the 200 mark.
yes i do have ccleaner installed .
so i will wait for next week to use it .
thank you

yes on window 7 i did resize it to 2 % with the slider .
so now on w-7 i am at 441 on a 500 hardrive.
this is what i use above [example] i copy it and paste it .and like you said i only change the limit gb number
