Torrents

I want to download a torrent, but i dont know the concept of torrent filesharing. Can someone please explain to me what im doing before using utorrent to download a file? (in other words describe and tell me what a torrent/method of filesharing this is?)

Be very careful. Torrents are usually used for illegal purposes. There are however a few "good" and legal torrents. DO NOT use torrents for copyright infringement. Only use torrents to download legal products. I nor this forum endorse the use of illegal file sharing. Anyone caught doing illegal activities will be banned and there may be investigation by the police resulting in your internet cut off, a massive fine, or a prison sentence. This information is for education only.

Anyway, a torrent is a method of file sharing. It is not downloaded from one server, but in little segments from users around the globe. It is therefore P2P (peer 2 peer) rather than server to user. A leecher is someone trying to download the file, and a seeder is someone using their machine as a hosts for the file. If there is no seeder, then you cannot download the file until a seeder comes online. You need a torrent program such as BitTorrent or uTorrent to download torrents. By default, once you have downloaded the file, your computer becomes a seeder for others.

Also, be careful, these downloads are peer made, and often contain the nastiest viruses. Stay away from torrents unless you really have to. Here is some more information: BitTorrent (protocol) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

if not as niemiro states, then YOU are STEALING

I have 5 2X2x2 boxes of DVD and music CD's since I learned about computers back in (1999) I yet to share stuff via kaza or whatever it is today.

thousands of dollars are being levied against people daily ( from what I've read )
