Vista stuck on black screen with blinking cursor

This is what did and my vista now does not start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Couple of days back at the time of booting my laptop I pluged in my iphone for charging. As it saw a new drive it started to scandisk it. I unplugged my iphone and restarted my computer as I was in a hurry. The scan was just taking a lot of time.
After that my vista is not starting up. It goes and get stuck on a blank screen with the cursor blinking on the top left corner.
As I have lost my original repair CD I made a recovery disk by downloading a vista recovery software for X64. Ran that and it did some thing and fixed the problem. But still I cannot boot my vista. It gets stuck on the same screen.
Using this disk, system restore and complete recovery is not working either.

Any one has any other tricks of making me pass the black screen. :-)

Thanks

Hello nicks145,
Can you boot into safe mode ?.
If you can, open a command prompt and type sfc/scannow press enter and let it scan, you may have to do this more than once if errors are found, until the system is clean.
Try this and post your results, good luck.

Hello All,

Thanks for helping out. I have tried to run chkdsk but then I executed bootrec /fixmbr which atleast made it pass the black screen. But its still not able to load vista. I am trying to execute sfc /scannow but it gives me the message that "windows resource protection could not start the repair service"

I got a blue screen error message when I restarted machine. The message was the file wefault.exe has been corrupted. After which it was dumping a memory dump.

I booted again into the repair disk and executed the command sfc /scanfile=C:\windows\syste32\wefault.exe /offbootdir=C: /offwindir=C:\Windows.
But its giving me the message Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Any more ideas please?

Can you boot into Safe mode and do a System Restore to before you blew your system up? :)
