Solved How do you stop the computer from going back to the log on page after it has been idl

Hello.

I want to know how I can prevent my computer from going back to the log on page after it has been idle for a time. I would simply rather touch the laptop pad and just be able to pick up from where I left off instead of having to sign in all over again.

I use Vista Ultimate. I have tried going to Personalization and the Screensaver page and checked to see if the

On resume, display logon screen

has been unchecked and it has been all along apparently. So I guess that's not the problem.

Thanks for any help.

Re: How do you stop the computer from going back to the log on page after it has been

I am browsing the articles and will look more into them later as I am now out of time. Must go to work.

However, I don't immediately see a solution to my problem.

This problem seems to come after a longer period of idleness (perhaps 30 minutes or more as opposed to 10 minutes of idleness).

Also, I don't believe it is related to closing the laptop lid as I have read elsewhere since I don't close the lid until after all power is shut down.

Keep on coming with the ideas and thanks, I appreciate it.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing as the Screen Saver setting, since i've never had to deal with this issue, but the power options in the Control Panel has these options.

Re: How do you stop the computer from going back to the log on page after it has been

Hello again,

I can find no solution in the help pages. I find things close to what I want but not exact. I still need help.

To MWRed: I see the page you refer to but mine is different. I have:

Require a password on wakeup
On Battery: Yes
Plugged In: Yes

The two Yes's have drop down menus that don't work. In other words, there is no other option (like Yes/No) to choose from there and they are washed out in appearance as if to convey that they were never functional.

However, I can switch back and forth by clicking on one or the other. But that isn't telling me if I am selecting one mode over the other or not. I still need help here, too.

OK, I thought things might be different with a laptop. I was just thinking off the top of my head, but hopefully someone will have a solution. In the meantime, if you find one and get it figured out, let us know how you did it. :)

Click "change settings that are currently available" and you'll be getting the option.

Re: How do you stop the computer from going back to the log on page after it has been

OK, thanks brummyfan. I see how to affect the drop down Yes/No menus on the:

Require a password on wakeup.

But is that all you are trying to tell me or are you trying to say that this is a way to solve my having to sign back on after the computer goes into sleep mode problem?

Thanks.

Yes, if you click "No" and Apply,OK, then it shouldn't ask for password hopefully.

Re: How do you stop the computer from going back to the log on page after it has been

OK, thanks. I just waited over two hours without touching my computer to let the log on page come up again.

I am happy to say that it didn't come up after I made the changes you recommended. Instead, I was able to pick up from where I left off two hours earlier-which is what I wanted. This solution seems to work. I now understand what you were trying to tell me.

I also had Experts Exchange helping me as well and they came to the same conclusion. So I commend all of you for your help.

Thanks again for the help.

I believe this question can now be closed out. How does one do that?

Thanks for the feedback, click the red triangle(next to the scale in the top right of your post) and send the message to the Mods and they will do the rest.
