Solved Thumbnails are gone

Hello!

I have a problem, my folders and individual files used to show thumbnails but suddenly it stopped working. All I see is an icon from the default program.
I have read about it and tried to fix it in folder options, tried uniblue but I just can't figure it out why it's not working anymore.

I will be very happy if anyone has an answer:)

I did everything the instructions told but I'm still not able to solve the problem. I'm so desperate:(
It's very funny, the second I open a folder I see some of the thumbnails but disappear in a moment.

Do you have any other suggestions maybe?

Any particular type of file thumbnails missing (e.g. videos, photos) or all of them?

Only photos, thumbnails of videos work normally. I just can't think of anything else that could be wrong. I've tried practically everything :(

Hello Sardelca, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Since you say it's only with photos, then double check in Default Programs to make sure that you have Windows Photo Gallery set as the default program with all of it's associations set for it as well.

If that still does not help, then you can see if downloading and using the listed file extension in the tutorial below for each of the picture's file extensions (ex: jpg, bmp) that do not have thumbnails may be able to help fix it for you. It will restore the default settings and associations for the selected file extension.

I opened default programs now and wanted to set Windows Photo Gallery as default for different file types and realized that the icon of the program was not like it usually is. Is there something wrong with the program itself and how to repair it?

Another thing:

If I open Windows Photo Gallery, which opens all picture files on my PC, the thumbnails are shown normally, so I really don't understand what is going on :(

Hello Sardelca,

In Vista, thumbnails usually only show for images when you have Windows Photo Gallery set as the default program with all of it's associations (file extentions).

Do you have Windows Photo Gallery set as the default program as above? Do you have thumbnails now afterwards?

Yes, Windows Photo Gallery is set as default program for all picture types. But when I opened the Default programs settings the icon of Windows Photo Gallery was different than usually. And I also tried to install what you recommended but it didn't solve the problem :(
The strange thing is that when I open the Windows Photo Gallery thumbnails are shown but if I just to to a folder that contains pictures then I can't see thumbnails :(

Hello again everyone.
After a few months I finally discovered what was the reason that my thumbnails disappeared. It was Comodo Internet Security! After I removed it, thumbnails appeared again.
Just wanted to let you know in case somebody else has the same problem and could solve it with this piece of information :)
