please help

help im trying to fix my moms windows xp media center edition 2005 laptop and it has the ntdetect failed thing on it and she doesnt have the boot cd's. she also has importent files on there that she cant lose. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

One thing you can try is to open it up and make sure everything is tight.
Looks like the bios is not detecting the drive or windows.
Either you have a bad drive or windows is missing the boot thing.

Did a google search and found this Error Message Detail

best thing to do.. just to simplify it is to remove the hard drive off the laptop.. connect it externally to another computer.. retrieve all the important files etc.. then format and reinstall windows on the laptop..
