how to change my desktop- I have tried all the usual methods, I can change the colour, but I can't get a picture on my desktop,

But....the picture I want to be there all the time, appears -but only for a few secs- when I'm closing down the PC!!
Can anyone help? Thanks

I tried to put a picture on my desktop. One of my own photo's or one provided by windows, it makes no difference, they just won't show when I use all the given procedures for changing the desktop. All I can change is the colour

Have you tried to right click the picture that you want as your desktop picture and select 'set as my desktop background'

Have you tried right clicking on an image on internet explorer and 'Set as desktop Background'

If that doesn't work then:

1. Right click on the desktop
2. Click on 'Personalize'
3. Click on Desktop Wallpaper

Does changing to any of those do anything?

Following up on what tom982 suggested, after you right-click on the Desktop and select Personalize, select Desktop Background and it should open up your Pictures folder. Click on any one of the images in your Pictures folder and it should immediately change your Desktop, so that you can essentially preview what it would look like if you selected that pic as your Background. After you've tried a few of the images, pick the one you want and check OK. That should do it. Does it work?

Hi again,

I opened a photo in Google Chrome-( which should work the same as internet
explorer I would think,) but I don't get an option to use it as desktop
background. Just various ways to save, open or copy it ....

Hello,

Go past any UAC prompts if necessary. Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialogue. Type cmd and press enter. Type sfc /scannow noting the space, press enter, and let the scan finish. It will take about 15 minutes. If Integrity Violations are found, copy and paste in findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log > %userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt and press enter. A file called sfcdetails.txt should have been created on your Desktop. Upload and attach it to your next post, or if you really can't just copy and paste the contents into your next reply. Thank you for the info.

It looks complicated to me. I don't know how to get past "UAC"Don't know what it is.
When I try do do the scan, I get a message that I haveto do the "console-session"as an administrator" first.... Any ideas?

Then right click on it and click run as administrator
You will be shown a uac propmt at this point.
Click yes, and then so the sfc scan like richard said

The UAC prompt comes up when a program requires administrative privelages, and what happens is your screen will dim, and then a box will come up saying Windows Needs Your Permission To Continue
