Vista issues!

Hey guys.
I'm running Vista Home Premium 32-bit on an HP G60 with 1.9GHz processor,2Gb Ram and 102Gb HDD.I've been experiencing some problems with the system over the past few months which has led me to start considering upgrading to Windows 7.SOME of the problems are:

  • My machine now takes up to 2 minutes to go into or come out of hibernate mode. When I first got my laptop, hibernate would take less than a minute.Sometimes it can completely fail to enter hibernate, resulting in me having to do a forced shutdown(press power button till computer switches off) and restart.I use hibernate quite a lot,so disabling it is out of the question.
  • System sometimes crashes(Blue screen: "Windows has detected an error and has shutdown in order to protect your system") for no apparent reason.
  • Windows Media Player and Media Center sometimes slow and on rare occasions stop responding.
  • Slow video response when playing video games.I mostly play FIFA 09 PC version. My laptop uses NVIDIA Graphics.(not sure about the details)
Any ideas?:sarc: And if I do decide to upgrade to 7,do you think my machine, given its specs above, would fair well?

Come to think of it,BSOD does occur when I'm using USB.I'm not sure if its a specific USB port or not.Havent bothered to check

Hello Tony Moneo, welcome to Vista Forums!

You need to be sure the motherboard will accept a video card. At the link below is a very good app for finding information about your system and it's free, it can also be run from a USB stick.

Would you advise me to upgrade to 7? I have sampled 7 on a friend's machine and to be honest I really don't know what all the fuss is about. Yes,its good, but its not great. Frankly,I like Vista but I'm considering 7 partly because of the ridicule I get from people when I tell them that I use Vista. I'm tired of trying to justify why I still have Vista.:roflmao:

when you run the upgrade advisor it will give you a result showing you if you can upgrade and to which versions but ultimately the choice is yours

I would advise that you upgrade to Windows 7.

This is the system requirements for Windows 7:

Microsoft.com said:
If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
As you can see, your specs fall well into these guidelines.

An upgrade is were all your programs and pictures, documents and video's...etc are transferred into windows 7. A clean install deletes everything on your Hard Drive and installs Windows 7. Also you can only do an Upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit if you want to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate then you are going to have to do a Clean install
