Can anyone suggest a reason for Internet Explorer to have recently become so slow on my laptop and sometimes a message says that it isn't responding....I clean my laptop reguarly and there's no report of anything on there that shouldn't be....it's getting quite frustrating.

Download and run malwarebytes
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Run a virus scan.

in addition remove all IE add-ons

Tools>internet options>advanced>reset

You will have to reload the addons one by one to determine, which is the problem; if it is indeed resolved.

Let us know if it works. If it does not we will come up with other ideas.

I disabled my Google tool bar about fifteen minutes ago and my laptop is working so much quicker now..... I can't understand why this should have been the cause of the problem though, as I'd had the Google tool bar enabled on my laptop for a long time and it's only recently that I've been having this problem .

You had the tool bar a long time, that may be the reason. There were probably updates, taking more ram. It is also possible that your computer is not all that new anymore. You should update cards, drivers etc.

Further more a new add on maybe in conflict. But more than likely it is your antivirus with some update.

Use MSE, Microsoft Security Essentials for the best results when using Windows.

If speed is your primary criteria, go Chrome.

I did have Firefox on my desktop computer but it caused problems that's why I'm trying to persevere with IE on my Laptop which is just twelve months old.
I frequently run a virus scan and no significant problems have ever been found, so it certainly looks as if it's something to do with the add-ons- it's so much quicker now that I've removed the Google tool bar.
