Solved Need Help! Data Partition

Hello,

My laptop has a 160 GB and I have been using it for almost a year. It had a disk "C" only. In "C", I saved all the data, system files, ect.

Now I want to create a data partition where I can save all my data to and use "C" for system files only. So, I created another partition using Disk Management, and my laptop now has:

(C)
(G) ---> new partition

How can I make a "G" become data partition ONLY? and how can I make a "C" become system partition only?

Sum up, i just want to make a partition for DATA only and another partition for system only, where my data partition can be secure and when I reboot the laptop, I won't lost any data..

Thank you

Hello Hoanghuy, welcome to Vista Forums!

If you created the partition using disk management in Vista and it's a primary partition, you will have no problems with it; I don't store anything on C: (i.e. pics, music) and I've never had any issues at all, you won't lose data when you boot.
Have a look at the tutorial at the link below to see an easy way to move stuff to the other/new partition, I've been using it for quite some time..

Thank you for the answer, BareFootKid.

Can you give a brief explanation about what is primary partition? Is there another type of partition?

Long time ago, at the age of Win 98, before install window to system, the first thing I did was divide the hard drive into two partitions: "C" and "D".

In "C", I installed the window and all other programs to it. While in "D", only Data.

So, when I reboot or ghost my system, I didn't lost any data.

In the old way, window doesn't have any power to "touch" my data.
Is the way I did in the first post similar to the way I done long time ago?

Thanks

Hello again.

Yes, the way you used to do it is still the best way to do it, that's what I do it myself.
