im having a lot of problems with vista

ok so

*i cant load any exe files with the exception of GoogleChrome

*when i try to open Windows Live Messenger, OneCare, itune, etc they wont open, but if i look on the task manager they seem to be running

*if i try in safe mode, the programs open, but they dont work

*a lot of windows services have been stopped, and when i try to start them again it gives me error 1053

*the network tray icon doesnt work, it display a red x implying im not connected, but i can use google chrome and connect to the internet

*i can download anything from the internet, it'll just freeze halfway

*i managed to open windows defender in safe mode and did a complete scan and i dont have any viruses

*nothing happens when i try to run sfc/scannow on command prompt even if i run it as administrator



please help me :(

Welcome to the Vista Forums!

Sorry that your having trouble but it sounds like you got a bug. Run a VIRUS/MALWARE. Then do the same in Safe Mode.

If you want open a Antivirus Program, try doing a System Restore, to an earlier date.

Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore

If that fails sorry but you might have to reinstall Vista.

I just read that you ran a scan with Windows Defender, try a virus scan. Windows Defender only checks for Malware and to be honest I use Microsoft Security Essentials, but I also ran a Malware Scan with Malwarebytes, Window Defender by itself isn't a AntiVirus program.

MS One Care has been discontinued and is no longer supported by MS, it has been replaced by the free MS Security Essentials, it can be downloaded at the link below; it's getting very good reviews.

Download Free MS Security Essentials



As has been suggested, it would be wise to download and install the free Malwarebytes from the link below, use another PC and put it on a disk if needed, once installed in safe mode run a full scan, if it finds anything run several scans until it comes clean.
