I've uninstalled service pack 2 and right after that I've got troubles booting my pc.
it's dell 1525, vista home premium 32bit

1. Safe mode: gets stuck at loading windows files

2. Normal start: 0xc0000034!! 229/88772 ( -0000000000000000.cdf-ms)

3. I have tried system restore at various dates, the outcome was:
'System restore did not complete succesfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.
System Restore failed due to an unspecified error. The file cannot be opened transactionally, because its identity depends on the outcome of an unresolved transaction. (0x80071AA7)

4. System does not help me and ends up with error:

I think you may have to reinstall SP1.
When SP2 gets loaded it removes and replaces some of SP1.
If you remove SP2 then you inadvertently remove some of SP1

Insert your VISTA disk. Then hit the REPAIR button. If it fails take the pc to a repair guy.
Let me know on how your going

@Sahil. This advice is premature - we don't yet know enough about the problem to determine if we can come up with some way to repair it without needing to take it to a computer repair shop. We don't even know if he has a Vista Installation Disk to try your first and only option. You haven't even suggested trying Safe Mode. We know nothing about the computer and the explanation of the problem isn't complete enough to even understand what is really happening here. Please remember that one of the points of this forum is to provide solutions to problems that do NOT require sending the computer to a computer repair shop except as a last restort when other options have been tried and exhausted. Here we haven't even tried anything yet and there are many other options with a Vista Disk (or one we can create on another machine or maybe even in Safe Mode) besides a Startup Repair or a system repair/upgrade if that is what you meant (as you'll see when I provide my initial reply shortly).

@Robert1968, I will post some alternative suggestions and quite a few questions shortly - please be patient. It may come to the point where a computer repair shop is warranted (it may even be likely now or shortly), but I do not believe we are there yet and so give us a chance to offer some other suggestions first. You can always go to the computer repair shop if the suggestions don't work or you decide you prefer that option (despite the fact that it may cost money whereas our suggestions rarely cost anything other than maybe a blank CD or two if that).

Thanks and I'll post back in a while.

What is the manufacturer, make, and precise model of your computer? What occurs when you boot normally (this AMI screen)? Have you tried to boot into Safe Mode by clicking repeatedly on the F8 button during the boot process until the menu appears and then selecting Safe Mode with Networking - if not, please try. Boot into BIOS (the option to get there should be listed on the screen during bootup) and see if you can change the boot order to CD Drive, HDD, and then the others - but make sure Floppy drive is not first. If the system will not boot to BIOS, then post back with what occurred when you tried and answers to ALL the above questions.

We'll need to do a general troubleshooting to see if we can identify the problem. We'll start with just options from the disk until you let us know about booting into safe mode.

Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates. Use the recovery disk if the system prompt doesn’t work. The recovery disk works a bit different from the above procedures but if you follow the prompts from the System Restore menu option with the above information you should be able to restore with no problems.

If the System Restore doesn't work, do a Startup Repair by booting to the genuine Windows Vista Installation Disk (or one you can borrow from ANYONE) or from a Recovery Disk with recovery options included on it. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/91467-startup-repair.html. To boot to the CD you may need to change the BIOS to make the CD-drive first in the boot sequence. To do that, wait for the screen that tells you the F key to push to access the boot menu or boot setup. Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work, and exit. Put the CD in the drive and reboot. When prompted, push any key to boot from the CD. If the system will not boot to the CD either, then post back with what occurred when you tried and answers to ALL the above questions.

If you don't have either disk, you can make a bootable Recovery Disk using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ along with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html and, of course, a blank CD (perhaps made on a different computer or perhaps in safe mode with networking if that is working).

If that doesn't work, try to boot into safe mode (repeatedly click the F8 key while booting and go to safe mode with networking – or do so from the command prompt on the disk). Then let's check some of your system files:

Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / Command prompt and right click on command prompt and click run as Administrator (you can skip this step if using the disk).

If using the disk, cd to C:\Windows\System32. Type sfc /scannow and enter and let it run. It will scan and try to fix some of your system files. Hopefully it will complete with no corruption it could not repair (if there is such corruption post back here or try to analyze it to find the problem file(s) using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228. Try to attach the report (you may need to copy it to a flash drive and move it to another computer to connect and attach it) here so we can see if they can be repaired with good copies from the installation disk if you have one or perhaps other ways (unless there are too many).

While in Command Prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run. It will want to schedule itself to run at the next restart. Answer yes and then reboot to run the program. It will scan and try to fix any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and mostly remove that as a potential cause.

Hopefully one of these procedures will resolve or at least identify the cause of your problem. If not, we'll proceed based on the results of these efforts (assuming you can do them - this may be a BIOS or hardware problem but we don't know that yet so we're trying this first) and answers to ALL the questions I asked above.

Good luck!
