changing default save location to store files

This should be an easy one - I'm just a newbie.

How can the "default" save location be set for files?

Background: The default location was set to a network drive which I dont use.

I tried to change it to my frequently used network drive but it doesn't seem quite right. Not sure of the "bigger picture".

Here's what I did...

Left-clicked START menu.

Right clicked on Properties of Top Right Corner default.

Changed the properties on the "General" and "Location" tabs to point to the folder I'd to be the default.

On one of my mapped drives, the folder is no longer displayed, however and the mapped drive that goes directly to it, it appears in the same location.

I'm just not sure what happened when I made these changes. I had no intention of "moving" the folder.

What does this feature actually do?
