Media Player and Subtitles

Hi There,

I have searched the net and have not found a solution that makes sense for my specific problem. I also took a breif look trhough the forums here and apologize if this has already been alnswered else where, but it is usually best to start a new thread if one is uncertain.

I have a .avi file that came with a .sub file, however Media player doesn't recognize the .sub file. It will play the .avi fine but without the subtitles. I have seen posts on the internet about downloading vobsub but this was for people who wish to play divex files on media player with subtitles and it said something about needing another file with a .idx extention.

I don't have a .idx file and I am not looking to play a divex file just a .avi file. I have both the .sub and the .avi file in the same folder, but media player doesn't recognize the .sub file if I try to open it, and if I try to open the .avi file it plays fine but without the subtitles.

Can anyone help explain how I can get this to play properly?

I can only help with Media Player Classic Home Cinema.
With that you have to go to file, load subtitles after starting the movie then restart

Hi There, I found that option on media player classic and have done so unfortunately when I stop then start the movie again after loading the subtitles they still not show up. Is there an option somewhere to restart specifically that I am missing?
