Hey guys, this isn't my computer thats having the problem, its my brother's computer. The catch is that he's in Afghanistan right now with limited to no internet. My parents computer had the exact same problem that I'm about to try and describe, but it was resolved by reinstalling vista. My brother can't do this because he doesn't have his reinstall disk, and he doesn't want to lose all of his games.
Anyway, on to the problem. At first he couldn't even get it to boot up without the screening being black where it should have been the login screen. Once he got it to boot up, (but disabling microsoft onecare) he found he couldn't open any of his games, and thing in control panel, or use backup and restore. Pretty much all other programs that actually start up freeze within seconds of starting. When he booted it up in safemode, he could do a little more, but system restore still didn't work. And when he tried to open onecare, he got a error saying it was "unavailible".
