I am trying to fix my friends laptop over the phone. I want to try system restore only the Vista version doesn't go back as far as the XP one did. I need to go back about 5 weeks. the options I have are only days back.
Any suggestions please.

The only suggetion is to be sure. When you get to the screen showing the days available, make sure that the box on the lower left is checked, show more days.

There are no other options, with system restore. You could try to go back to factory specs. The computer will be like the day that you brought it home. You lose all your programs etc. Just l ike day one. It is usually done by pressing an f key repeatdly during boot.

Nope, nothing has been done with the exception of my other Q. which was regarding her just constantly pulling out the USB's she had been using "unsafely". So no formatting nothing. Unfortunately My laptop has just blown a HD and is in dock, I am on my XP PC and talking on the phone to a novice so although I have enlisted the use of some very good guides, I cannot tell her how to search for a point way back as that option in the guides eludes me.
Nothing has been wiped away intentionally, and I fear she would not know if it was accidentally done, which I doubt it was.

When all the space on the hd, set aside for restore, is used, the old are removed to make room for the new restore points
