It shows up as my name, I just used John_Doe for anonymity. What do you mean I may have live mail? I never set up an email account and my wife and I tried to log into [email protected] and the account does not exist.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

My Computer

Live mail is not an account. It is an email client that is used with Vista. It is used to send and receive mail from one or more accounts in the same place.

Go to search and type windows live mail, see if it comes up

Would it show up even if I hadn't accessed anything like that? The evening it showed up I had only done the following:

Check my yahoo account (which is set as my homepage)
checked weather.com
played a game of hearts from the start menu/games

Thanks

If you type Widows live mail in search and it does not come up you do not have it.

It should come up if it is installed. Using or not using has no bearing.

Admittedly, I am a computer idiot. But why, if i have never accessed it, or tried to, would it show up in the start menus Recent Items?

My Computer

First, did you find that you had it, using the method that I told you?

I will do further research and report back if I can come up with an explanation for this bizzare situation.
In the meatime, other members may post if they have an idea that might help.

OK just had this idea, that may help. Bring up the entry, right click and properties, lets find out where it is located. That may be a hint.

Hope this helps

Almost every website that you visit leaves cookies on your computer. If you want I can tell you how to prevent it, but you will have trouble with some sites.

In any event you went to a site that left that cookie. Probalby you are being tracked for adversting or othe purposes (dont worry, they are on everyones computer). The cookies are usually harmless unless you go to know bad sites, you know the ones.
They can leave cookies that will give you continual pop ups or worse.

Bottom line, it seems to be from a reputable site, I would forget about it. To assure yourself, download and scan with malwarebytes if clean, forget about it. Its on everyones computer, in one form or another.

What Are Computer Cookies?

Thank you, but I guess I still don't understand why that would show up in Recent Items from the start menu. I thought that was only for programs not the internet. On my wifes account the only items that show are word documents, excel spreadsheets, etc. I use the computer sparingly; it doesn't seem logical to me that a cookie would show up their for an MSN product when I only visited Yahoo, and weather.com.

My Computer

You recently picked up that cookie, it is on your computer. I know when I do a search
(Windows 7) everthing is displayed.

I just put Yahoo in search to test and I found

My favorites
My TV schedule (I use Yahoo)
My Yahoo shows.
Even a site that I forgot about, a DSL speed test, that I found through Yahoo.

Try this, but make sure it works first. Send an email to that address, you should get the rejection notice. If you do, tell your wife to send to the address. Then she will be sure.

Would the live mail client have to be set up or does the program do that itself? Why would it show up under my user if I have never accessed it?

My Computer

All you have to do is send to address shown, with your normal email. If there is not such address, you will get a return notice.

All I know is that your visited a site recently that deposited that cookie.
